PROMISED PEACE

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Once a great violinist named Paganini walked onto the stage to play a concert. All at once he realized something was wrong with his violin. It was not his best, most valuable one. He went backstage to get his best violin and discovered someone had stolen it. What could he do? The audience was waiting for the concert. Quickly, he made a decision and walked out with the inferior violin. He explained to the audience what had happened. Then he said, “I will show you that the music is not in the instrument, but in the soul.” He played as he had never played before. Beautiful music poured out of the instrument. The audience was thrilled, and they clapped so hard the sound almost raised the roof of the concert hall.

There is a spiritual lesson in this story. The violinist is like us, and the inferior violin is like the problems in our lives. Just as the violinist took that inferior violin in his hands and made beautiful music, we can look at our problems and say, “No matter what the circumstances are, the music is still in my soul. I still have peace and joy, and I’m not going to let circumstances make me sad and miserable.” No matter what goes wrong in your life, you can have peace. Only God can give us that kind of peace. His peace helps us to face any circumstance with confidence that we can survive it.

Dear Lord, please give me your peace so that nothing hard shakes me. Amen.
