The Pills Poem
I destroy homes, tear families apart, and that’s just the start. I’m more costly than diamonds, more costly than gold, the sorrow I bring is a sight to behold, and if u need me, remember I’m easily found. I live all around you, in schools and in town.
I live with the rich, I live with the poor, I live down the street, and maybe next door. My power is awesome; try me you’ll see, but if you do, you may never break free. Just try me once and I might let you go, but try me twice, and I’ll own your soul.
When I possess you, you’ll steal and you’ll lie. You do what you have to just to get high. The crimes you’ll commit, for my narcotic charms will be worth the pleasure you’ll feel in your arms.
You’ll lie to your mother; you’ll steal from your dad; When you see their tears, you should feel sad. But you’ll forget your morals and how you were raised, I’ll be your conscience, I’ll teach you my ways.
I take kids from parents, and parents from kids, I turn people from God, and separate from friends. I’ll take everything from you, your looks and your pride; I’ll be with you always, right by your side.
You’ll give up everything your family, your home, your friends, your money, and then you’ll be alone.
I’ll take and take, till you have nothing more to give. When I’m finished with you you’ll be lucky to live. If you try me be warned this is no game and if given the chance, I’ll drive you insane. I’ll ravish your body; I’ll control your mind. I’ll own you completely; your soul will be mine.
The nightmares I’ll give you while lying in bed, the voices you’ll hear from inside your head, the sweats, the shakes, the visions you’ll see; I want you to know, these are all gifts from me, But then it’s too late, and you’ll know in your heart, that you are mine, and we shall not part.
You’ll regret that you tried me, they always do, but you came to me, not I to you. You knew this would happen, many times you were told, but you challenged my power, and chose to be bold. You could have said no, and just walked away, if you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I’ll be your master; you will be my slave, I’ll even go with you, when you go to your grave. Now that you have met me, what will you do? Will you try me or not? It’s all up to you. I can bring you more misery than words can tell. Come take my hand, let me lead you to hell.
This poem was given to me nearly a year ago by someone I love very much. He was addicted to prescription pain medication. Snorting 160mg of Oxycodone per day. After going through rehab he shared this poem with me and said “this is exactly what this addiction is like.”
If you know someone struggling with addiction…reading this “pill poem” it will help you understand the enormous struggle the addict is facing.
I don’t like the way Sarah calls attention to this insightful poem on my site.
I love it! But not as much as I love her.
Shawn and I both read this poem, and I have forwarded it to Moriah. From a literary standpoint I wasn’t blown away by the writing, but I do think the message it purveyed was very strong and a worthwhile read.
Thank you for sending it to us.
Xoxo,

I’ve seen the poem a number of times and like it.
The 3 bottles of pills at the top of the poem are Suboxone, available with a prescription, and are prescribed to people fighting opioid addictions. The pills block the high that a person taking drugs like Oxycontin experience, making narcotics less appealing because the ‘reward’ is gone.
People who successfully complete the lengthy Suboxone treatment plan and therapy requirements are the ones who return from hell, the people who are reunited with their children, the ones who go back to school to earn a college degree. The heroes who successfully become reclassified as ‘recovering addicts’ are the reason some addicts dare to believe that they may also be able to break free.
Sarah chose a drug that addicts reading your site would likely recognize as a way of breaking free of the power of addiction.

Hi Grandpa, I just read this poem and thought it was amazing. It shows me that the affects of drugs are so bad and that I should never even touch them or get near them. Thank you for putting this on your website!!
Love, Michael
Some people suffer so bad from being addicted to prescription pills. I know this personally from seeing people around me who have suffered from this disease. Its is a drug that will completely take over your life. And the ones who abuse it don’t see the damages it does to loved one.
After reading this poem it made me think about how many friends I’ve met that are very sick from these pills and with this poem every-word is correct, these pills will definitely take over everything about you, so what i ask is for as many people read this poem it will make you think how a pill will change a good person to a very bad person and all because kids and adults love the high and as i said I’ve already seen two of my friends die at a very young age because they started out on pills and then got into more power full stuff, its a shame. please learn to take care of our body’s and pray we don’t abuse what our creator made to protect.
